"Building of the Palace commenced in the year 1586"

Verdala Palace

Savio College is surrounded by various sites which are rich in history and date back to the time of the Knights of Malta such as the Verdala Palace which is just a 30-minute walk away from Savio College.

It was commissioned by the Cardinal Grand Master de Verdalle. The castle was designed by the famous architect Gerolamo Cassar who also designed many other 16th century buildings such as St John’s Co-Cathedral. The building of the Palace commenced in the year 1586 and it overlooks one of Malta’s largest patches of woodland called “Buskett” (meaning woodland). Today this historical gem is used as the official summer residence of the President of the Republic of Malta.
